Graduation Courses

The registration, advisor appointment, execution, and submission processes of the Graduation Project (Fall) and Graduation Thesis (Spring) courses included in the 4th-grade curriculum are specified in the flowchart below. Within the first two weeks of the semester, Advisor Preference Forms must be completed for Graduation Courses. Otherwise, assignments will be made without collecting preferences.

Fall Semester: Course Registration and Advisor Selection

Graduation Project (Fall)

Students passing to the 4th grade register for the Graduation Project course during the Fall semester course registration week. The advisor preference process is initiated via Google Form.

📝 There are 3 options in the form. Choose the one that fits your situation:
  • Normal Situation: I am taking the Graduation Project course in the Fall semester (standard process).
  • Exception 1: Although I should normally take the Graduation Project in the Fall, I could not; I want to take the Graduation Thesis in the Spring semester.
  • Exception 2: I took the Graduation Thesis in the Spring with Exception 1; I will apply to be reassigned to the same advisor in the next Fall semester. (Reminder/application option)
  • Filling the Form: The form must be filled out in the first week of classes.
  • Preference Rule: All faculty members in the department are listed in the form; you are asked to assign a rank number to each.
  • Assignment Process: Definite advisor assignments are carried out in the second or third week in line with student requests and faculty member quotas.
If the form doesn't open: You may not be signed in with your giresun.edu.tr account in your browser. Please follow the "Important" step at the top of the page.

Fall Semester: Project Execution and Evaluation

Graduation Project (Fall)

Following the assignment process, the student contacts their advisor and a project is carried out on a common topic determined together.

  • Output and Grading: Outputs requested by the advisor for the project are produced. These outputs are evaluated as Midterm and Final (or Make-up) exam grades and entered into the system.
💡 Topic Freedom Note:
Students do not have to work on the same topic in the "Graduation Project" course in the Fall semester and the "Graduation Thesis" course in the Spring semester. Studies can be carried out on different topics if agreed with the advisor.
3

Spring Semester: Registration and Thesis Writing

Graduation Thesis (Spring)

The Graduation Thesis course is selected during the course registration phase in the Spring semester.

  • Advisor Status: Under normal conditions, no new form is filled out for advisor preference in the Spring semester; work continues with the advisor assigned in the Fall semester.
  • Thesis Writing: The work carried out is written down in accordance with the Thesis Template format determined by our department.
  • Midterm Exam: The product/progress determined by the advisor (without requiring a physical output condition) is graded as the midterm exam grade.
4

Spring Semester: Presentation and Submission

Graduation Thesis (Spring)

Towards the end of the Spring semester, the following procedures are carried out respectively:

  • Week 15 (Poster and Presentation): The Poster prepared regarding the thesis is hung on the department boards under the supervision of the Graduation Study Commission. On the day and time announced within the same week, the student conveys their thesis as an Oral Presentation to the committee consisting of Department Faculty Members.
  • Last Week (Thesis Submission): In the last week of the semester, the **Thesis file** is submitted to the department in **printed (physical) form** as the final product.
Determination of Final Grade:
After the thesis submission, the advisor determines the Final grade by considering the Poster, Oral Presentation, and Printed Thesis File and enters it into the system.

Exceptional Cases (Via Form)

Attention

Even in exceptional cases, the entire process is carried out via Google Form. There are no e-mail/printout/submission procedures.

📝 Exception 1 (Those who want to take Thesis in Spring):
Students who could not take the Graduation Project course in the Fall semester and want to take the Graduation Thesis in the Spring semester should select the "Exception 1" option in the form.
📝 Exception 2 (Reminder/application for the next Fall):
Students who took the Graduation Thesis in the Spring semester with Exception 1 must apply by selecting the "Exception 2" option in the form to be reassigned to the same advisor in the next Fall semester.
📌 Reminder: Students in Exception 1 or Exception 2 situations must completely fulfill all requirements within the scope of the Graduation Thesis (Poster, Oral Presentation, Printed Thesis File).
