Exemption and Adaptation

      Course Exemption and Adjustment Procedures

      The application steps, evaluation criteria, and result tracking process for students who have transferred (Lateral Transfer, Vertical Transfer-DGS), are doing a Double Major/Minor, or have previously studied at another university are summarized below.

      Application Time and Period

      ⚠️Strict Time Limit: You must apply within 10 business days at the latest from the date of your final registration to the university or from the start date of the academic year.
      • Preparatory Class Students: Apply at the beginning of the semester following the completion of the preparatory program.
      • Late Application: Applications not made within the period and exemption requests made in subsequent semesters will not be accepted.

      Preparation of Documents

      Preparation

      The following documents must be complete and approved for the application to be processed:

      📄Annex 1 Petition Must be filled out completely on a computer or in legible handwriting.
      🎓Transcript Must be approved (signed/sealed) or have a verifiable e-government barcode.
      📚Course Contents Approved contents of the courses for which exemption is requested.
      * Note: You do not need to submit course content for Ataturk's Principles and History of Revolution, Turkish Language, and Foreign Language courses.

      Form Filling and Submission

      Process

      Points to consider when filling out the Annex 1 Form:

      • Matching: In the table, write your old course in the "Courses Taken at Previous University" column, and the corresponding course in our department's curriculum in the "Courses Requested for Exemption at Giresun University" column.
      • Translation: If the language of your previous course is other than Turkish, a certified Turkish translation must also be attached.
      📂 Place and Method of Submission:
      Organize all your documents (Petition, Transcript, and Course Contents) in a transparent file and hand-deliver them to the Exemption and Adjustment Commission within the deadline.

      Evaluation Criteria

      Commission

      The Department Exemption and Adjustment Commission evaluates your application according to the following rules:

      🔍75% Rule There must be at least 75% similarity between course contents. The course name does not have to be exactly the same.
      📊Grade Conversion Letter grades are converted to our university's system. "Success/Pass" grades without numerical equivalents are considered CC.
      ⬆️Grade Adjustment A student who is exempt from 2/3 of the courses of a class grade is adjusted to the next upper class grade.

      Announcement of Results and Objection

      Result
      • Process: The Commission reviews within 1 week, and results are notified within 2 business days after the Faculty Administrative Board decision.
      • Objection: If you think there is a material error, you can object within 1 week at the latest.
