History

      Our department, established within the Faculty of Engineering of Giresun University in 2012, continues its development with its academic staff, physical infrastructure, and quality of education.

      Academic Staff and Management
      In our department, where Prof. Dr. Halil Karadeniz, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümmükülsüm Özel Akdemir, Prof. Dr. Atila Gürhan Çelik, and Prof. Dr. Ahmet Apaydın have served as Head of Department since its establishment; the duty of Head of Department has been carried out by Prof. Dr. İbrahim GÜNEŞ since 2024.

      Our department continues its studies with its expert academic staff in 7 divisions: Geotechnics, Hydraulics, Mechanics, Transportation, Structure, Construction Materials, and Construction Management.
      Physical Infrastructure and Education
      Our department, which first operated in the historical building on the Giresun Castle road, then in the Health Sciences building; moved to the Güre Campus Engineering Faculty building in 2015.

      With the allocation of the old Sports Sciences building in 2021, physical facilities were expanded; 3 laboratories, namely Geotechnics, Structure-Materials, and Hydraulics, were established.

      2012

      Establishment

      Our department was established. Prof. Dr. Halil KARADENİZ started working as the first academic staff and Head of Department.

      2014 - 2015

      First Appointments and Relocation

      Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ümmükülsüm ÖZEL AKDEMİR (2014), Asst. Prof. Dr. Mahmut DURMAZ and Asst. Prof. Dr. Yasemin BARAN (2015) joined the academic staff. Our department moved to the Güre Campus Engineering Faculty building.

      2016

      Start of Education

      Education and training activities at the 4-year Undergraduate level began.

      2018 - 2020

      Staff Expansion and First Graduates

      Joined the staff: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eren KÖMÜRLÜ, Prof. Dr. Atila Gürhan ÇELİK (2018); Prof. Dr. Ahmet APAYDIN, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kadir AKGÖL, Asst. Prof. Dr. H. Metin NUMANOĞLU (2019); Prof. Dr. İbrahim GÜNEŞ, Res. Asst. Furkan ŞEN (2020).
      Our department gave its first undergraduate graduates in 2020.

      2021

      Master's Degree and Laboratories

      Prof. Dr. Gürol YILDIRIM joined the department. The Thesis Master's program was opened in October. With the development of physical facilities, 3 new laboratories became operational.

      2022 - 2025

      Current Developments

      The staff was strengthened with the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Furkan GÜNDAY (2022), Asst. Prof. Dr. Enes YILDIRIM (2024), and Asst. Prof. Dr. Ömer Faruk ÖZTÜRK (2025).
      First Master's graduates were given in 2023. Also, more than 20 seminars and technical trips were organized between 2018-2025.
